premarinPremarin (Conjugated Estrogens) is used for treating some conditions in women occurring in the period of menopause and post-menopause.
The condition treated with Premarin include:
- vasomotor disorders, caused by estrogen deficit (symptoms:flushes, excessive sweating);
- atrophic vaginitis, atrophic urethritis;
- treating and prevention of osteoporosis caused by estrogen deficit.

Premarin is also known to reduce the risk of development coronary heart disease in postmenopausal women.
Premarin  is taken once a day. During menstrual bleeding the treatment with Premarin is started from the 5th day of the period, and an additional gestagenic medication is prescribed from the 15th to 21st.  In case of suppressed menstruation the treatment could be started any day. Premarin dosage could be increased on the 5th or 7th day of treatment up to 3,75 mg in case of necessity, than it is reduced to 1,25 mg.  In case of intermenstrual bloody discharges during estrogen therapy the dosage of the latter is increased.  During next cycle the same dosage of Premarin is prescribed as  was required for stopping bleeding in the previous cycle. In the next cycles the dose of estrogen is reduced to the maintaining dose. At climacteric syndrome the recommended dose is 1,25 mg daily. The dose could be increased or reduced depending on the severity of the symptoms and reaction of the patient to the drug.
In the postmenopausal period it is recommended to take 0,3-1,25 mg daily as a replacement therapy for treating conditions caused by estrogen deficit. The recommended dose for patients suffering from ovariotomy or primary ovarian dysfunction is 1,25 a day. 3,75-7,5 mg a day is usually prescribed for treating dysfunctional uterine bleeding. Bleeding can be stopped within 2-5 days. If it does not stop, the dosage of Premarin should be increased by 50%.
