Actos (Pioglitazone) for treating diabetes type 2

actosDiabetes represents a group of endocrine diseases developing owing to relative or absolute insulin deficiency or disturbance of its interaction with body cells resulting in persistent increase of blood sugar rate (hyperglycemia).  This disease is chronic and is characterized by metabolic disorders of all possible types (carbohydrate, lipid, protein, mineral and water-salt). Besides men, some animals (e.g. cats) are also susceptible to this disease.  In patients with diabetes type 2  insulin is produced in normal or even increased quantity, however in such patients the mechanism of insulin interaction with body cells id disturbed. The main reason is dysfunction of membrane receptors which help the cells to interact with insulin- the receptors become unable to interact with the hormone due to changes in their structure or number. In some cases of diabetes type 2 the structure of insulin may be damaged (genetic defects). The main factor causing diabetes type 2 is obesity; other risk factors include elderly age, pernicious habits, hypertension, chronic overeating, and sedentary life.   Diabetes type 2 predominantly affects people above 40. Actos (Pioglitazone) is a medication widely used for treating diabetes type 2 (both as a single-drug treatment and in combination with derivatives of sulfamides, insulin, etc.). The medicine showed effectiveness even in cases when dietary treatment, physical exercises or other medicines turned ineffective.  Actos (Pioglitazone) is taken once a day independently of food intake. The dose of Actos (Pioglitazone) is determined individually. The initial dose is 15-30 mg, the maximal daily dose is 45 mg/day and the dose used in combined therapy is 30 mg/day.
